The panic triggered by the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and the resulting COVID-19 pandemic, indicated the common lack of appropriate, human, management of epidemics. Driehoek Research Support offers all the expertise and skills to develop and implement such a management. We have both, the required extensive experience in, and knowledge of, epidemiology and the skills of good research management. Good science is the basis of epidemiology and, therefore, essential to manage epidemics properly.
Good science operates in a space defined by, love of truth, freedom of expression, and an orientation in a plethora of information. Love of truth means looking beyond the common, the obvious. It requires sufficient time and facilities to investigate life in depth, whether from a physical, a mental, or environmental point of view. Scientists need also to be independent and we touch on the second side of the triangle, freedom of expression. A freedom that is not commonly guaranteed due to all the, financial, societal, and business interests related to (applied) research. And yes, we have to deal with a massive flow of research publications and data. Researchers, scientists, have a real challenge to get some orientation in the plethora of information.
