Scientists can no more ignore this topic since the general public became aware of typical cases of fraud like the one of Stapel. How can research institutions, or companies, however, assure research integrity as demanded by the public in an efficacious way? DRS has developed a method to guarantee the quality of projects, institutions, and companies, based on an approach of prevention and representative sampling. A cost-effective way of assuring research integrity.
DEMONSTRATE THE INTEGRITY
research integrity as demanded by the public
Research integrity is like playing false in a band. You may play false, sloppy, without going noticed immediately. The other members may compensate even the misconducting one to a certain degree. The band will, however, not achieve the maximum of success.
Scientists need to trust each other like the members of a band need to do. The general public, the audience, expects this trust paying a lot for science, the concert.
DRIEHOEK RESEARCH SUPPORT
We adopt, and adapt, the approach to smart organisation management with respect to integrity and we apply it to, a study, the research of a whole institution, the innovation of a company. Are the standard operation procedures proper? Are these in use? Is the staff skilled and well-trained? If not, we organise all this to prevent misconduct and fraud. In addition, we sample smartly existing databases to check the quality.
Scientists know by intuition about research integrity. They, however, may experience stimuli letting them behave in a deviant way. Publish, or perish; patents, or job loss; quick and dirty, or forget your career. The environment of scientists determines largely how they act. This acting enables real knowledge of research integrity, or not.
Research integrity is a new area entered by DRS as such. Actually, it was the basis of our acting always. We do, however, offer services directed specifically to theme of integrity now.
